What is Thanktuary Retreat Center?

Thanktuary is a sanctuary for rest, reconnection, and renewal nestled in the redwood forest near Gualala, California. We host private self-retreats, group retreats, ceremonies, and healing events designed to support body, mind, and spirit.

Who are the founders?

Thanktuary is lovingly tended by Rev. Veenaa and David Matson — healers, teachers, and facilitators who steward the land through ceremony, movement, and mindful connection with nature.

Where are you located?

We are located just minutes from the Pacific Ocean in Northern California, near the coastal town of Gualala. Exact directions are shared upon booking.

What types of retreats do you offer?

We offer:

  • Personal Self-Retreats for individuals or couples seeking solitude, healing, or spiritual reset.

  • Small Group Retreats for up to 6 guests, with optional facilitation add-ons.

  • Hosted Group Retreats for 10–35 participants led by facilitators or teachers.

  • Special Events such as weddings, celebrations of life, and community gatherings.

Can I create my own retreat?

Yes. You can design your own self-guided or group retreat. We’ll help tailor your stay with meals, healing sessions, or movement classes to suit your needs and budget.

Do you offer retreats led by your team?

Yes. Rev. Veenaa and David regularly offer themed retreats such as Medicine Basket, Dolphin Heart Alchemy, and Biodanza Weekends. Visit our Upcoming Events page for the latest schedule.

How do I book a retreat?

Complete the Retreat Inquiry Form on our website. Once we receive your details, we’ll follow up with availability, pricing, and next steps to confirm your booking.

Accommodations

What kind of lodging do you offer?

We have a range of accommodations — from private suites like Buddha’s Blessed Home and The Queen’s Loft to cozy cabins like The Treehouse, shared dorms, and forest camping areas.

Do rooms include private bathrooms?

Some units have private bathrooms, while others share access to our beautiful Bath House with showers, sinks, and a cedar soaking tub. Each listing specifies its amenities.

Are meals included?

Meals are generally not included unless part of a hosted retreat. Self-retreat guests have access to kitchens or kitchenettes, and local restaurants are nearby.

Do you allow pets?

Currently, we do not allow pets, to honor the wildlife and natural serenity of the land.

Is there cell service and Wi-Fi?

Limited Wi-Fi is available in some accommodations; cell coverage may vary. We encourage guests to unplug and reconnect with nature.

Healing & Services

What kinds of healing sessions are offered?

Rev. Veenaa offers Dolphin Heart Alchemy, Shamanic Healing, Mentorship, Integration Sessions, and Ceremonial Journeys, among other services.

Can I book a session without staying overnight?

Yes. Many guests visit for a single-day healing or movement session. You can inquire through our contact form.

What is Dolphin Heart Alchemy?

It’s Veenaa’s signature healing modality combining intuitive channeling, energy work, movement, and sound — designed to reconnect you with your essence.

Are plant medicines used at Thanktuary?

Some retreats and ceremonies include work with legal plant sacraments. Participation is always optional and requires a detailed health and safety screening.

Booking & Policies

What are your payment and cancellation terms?

  • A 50% deposit is required to secure your booking.

  • 25% (or $1,000) is non-refundable to cover administrative costs.

  • The balance is due 30 days before your retreat.

  • Cancellations made less than 60 days before arrival forfeit the deposit; less than 30 days, no refund.

Do facilitators need insurance?

Yes. Retreat leaders must provide a Certificate of Liability Insurance naming Thanktuary Retreat and its stewards as additional insured. If unavailable, signed liability waivers are required for all participants. Find more information here.

We accept Zelle, check, Venmo, and PayPal.

Is Thanktuary open year-round?

Yes, we host retreats and guests throughout the year. The forest has its own beauty in every season.
